So Anthropologie is winning big points with their latest Catalogue . Tons of amazing animals posing with merchandise that is almost as amazing as a real life critter. Let's face it ,do I want the boots or the sheep ? In the end I probably have to just go for the boots. Anyway these felted dogs are about to get swatted by the tongue out Siamese. Kerplow!
I don't even think he was in the catalogue but oh man, he is cute. This guy, I really really want to have for my own little glass of milk. Sometimes I need a little swig to help me go back to sleep after a real cat (Maxwell Tea House) wakes me up at 5am.

I did not yank this photo off a blog but rather from Twitter. This teenager is so handsome and quite frankly a delicious tabby-tastic dude. Ulysses is our super awesome neighbor at Quirk Gallery. His dad Phil is a pretty great customer and friend. This picture was taken by Ulysses' room mate Bill, who is also in the category of bestest neighbor ever.

Design Cats

You can have a beautiful house or office or patio but is it really a home without a snuggly snicklefritz? No it is not. So here is my first design cat post.

I know I know, I never ever post. But I have been thinking lately that someone should have a Design Cats Blog that shows the awesomeness that is a cat. With some extra encouragement from my best friend and the lovely ladies at Urban Nest Blog I am going to try and revive Teapotonwheels with a little cat action. I have a feeling that a lot of my material is going to come from Design*Sponge and Swing the Focus, the two places I see cats and don't feel like the crazy old cat lady.

Can we come out yet?

Scoop E. McAlister wants to blog. He is restless. Every time I sit down in front of Alice the Apple he tries to leap into my lap. So I have made him my official c0-blogger.

So this winter it snowed, a lot. It was beautiful, I loved it, but I am so ready for Spring. Mr. McAlister and I have a serious case of spring fever. Hopefully the sunshine will wake us up and we can be a little more active here in blog land.

Thanks to the amazing Alison, I have been talked into updating Teapotonwheels. So what have been up to for the last two months? Besides neglecting my blog?

Playing with kids.

Working hard with the ladies.

Wii Hula Hooping like a mad person.

Being madly in love with friend's babies.

Making new friends, which is really quite nice.

Most importantly, snuggling with the animals.

Weather they like it or not.

I am at it again. I have my faithful intern on the horn scooping up children for my workshops.

On four separate Thursdays in October , Quirk will be having art workshops for children ages 5 to 12. We will be making clothes pin people and animals, glove cats (or dogs), shadow boxes, and finger puppets.
Workshops will be held on Thursdays. October 1st, 8th, 22nd, and 29th from 4 to 5:30 pm.

All materials and a snack will be provided.

Each class coasts $25 or take all four for $85.

It's critter time

It is time for another art adventure at Quirk. Kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to come create a friend out of clay. We are gonna squish, pinch, pull, and tug on a lump of clay until we have found a creature. As the critter is discovered we will learn more about him or her. What's it's name? Is it silly or serious? At the second session of the workshop, after the critters come out of the kiln, we will use recycled materials to create a habitat for our new friends. This is a two day workshop taking place on Monday August 10th and Monday August 17th from 10 am to 12pm. There is only space for 6 kids so give me a call or email to sign up. $35 each child. Breaking my one rule

We are about to open a new exhibition at Quirk, After Life: A Skull Exhibition. I am very excited about this show. The work is by Noah Scalin from his Skull A Day project. There are so many different pieces it's like being in a candy store, so many fun items to check out. Anyway Maxwell the cat and I have been working on a dress for the opening. This is our progress so far. Next we need to change the neck line and a some length (for goodness sake, trash).

For anyone who thought I might be sane, I am about to change your mind. Almost three years ago I vowed never again to wear black. With the exception of my Dansko shoes , a giraffe skirt, and a bicycle sweater, I have kept my vow. I made the vow after a stranger asked me if I was wearing black because I was in mourning. Since Noah's skull project is a reminder to us all how precious life is, I am breaking my one and only true rule.

Sock Animals

Quirk Projects: Kid art adventures at Quirk
Here is my latest project. If you know any kids who might like to come and make things with me, send them on over. Starting in June, I will have a few mornings at Quirk where kids can come and make sock animals or whatever other critters we can think of.

Sock Animals Workshop
Come create a snugly sock creature with us at Quirk. We will be hand sewing fun stripey socks into zany characters. All materials and lunch provided. Each class is just $25

Tuesdays are for 4 to 8 year olds. 10 am to 1pm on June 23rd and 30th

Wednesdays are for 9 to 12 year olds. 10 am to 1 pm on June 24th and July 1st.

Holy Cow, this is amazing! A customer at Quirk recommended that I check out this lady's work on Picturetrail. The name is Granny X.
Micro Macramé is a whole new world to me. This level of craftsmanship is unheard of. I mean this is no bulky hanging plant holder, nor is it a big old owl with wooden bead eyes. I kinda can't stand the amazing detail. Like most Grany ladies I know, Granny X is super delicious.

Hope Ginsberg just stopped by the gallery and let me know about this amazing collection of glass plants at The Harvard Museum of Natural History. The plants were created by Leopold Blaschka and his son, Rudolph for Professor George Lincoln Goodale, founder of the Botanical Museum. There are 3,000 models that represent life like specimens to study botany. More than 830 plant species are represented by the collection. I am adding this to my list of places I need to go visit.
